The Venue

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouses, are a 15 acre oasis of delight. Designed by J. C. Loudon, a leading garden planner, horticultural journalist and publisher, they opened to subscribers in 1832.

Today, you will find beauty, peace and tranquility combined with excellent visitor facilities. The Botanical Gardens makes for a perfect venue to celebrate everything that is new and growing.

Dates & Times

The event will take place from 11am – 3.30pm on Friday 27th February 2009.

On arrival, guests will be greeted with a Champagne and Canapé reception.  They will have time to visit our small exhibition before being called to lunch.

Roasted Sea Bass
Served with a creamy spring pod risotto, roasted cherry tomato served in a courgette barrel, with a reduced balsamic dressing.

Warm Chocolate Fondant
With bitter dark chocolate sauce, walnut and maple syrup ice cream.

What’s Happening

marv_about.jpgMarverine Cole will be our event host.  Currently a Presenter for Sky News, Marverine's a born and bred Brummie who's been working as a freelance TV & Radio Presenter since the mid-1980s. After the heady days of working in a factory making supermarket basket handles and being a cashier in a bookies, to earn extra cash while studying for her BA (Hons) degree in Business Studies, she opted for presenting on hospital radio, which lead to traffic and travel broadcasting and to hosting her own shows on commercials local radio stations, Imagine FM in Stockport and Touch FM in Coventry.

Marverine spent ten years as Personal Assistant to Managing Directors and Chief Execs in banks, colleges and  -  purely to satisfy her passion for chocolate -  at Cadburys! In her lunch hours she’d dash off to pre-recs for her job as Entertainment Correspondent on Birmingham Cable Television.

Then one day in 2003, she decided to give up trying to arrange the lives of disorganised managers to study a Postgraduate in Broadcast Journalism.  Since qualifying, Marverine's worked in the West Midlands as a TV Reporter/Presenter for BBC Midlands Today and ITV Central News. On the radio front, she presented  'REAL TALK', her own live weekly show on BBC Radio WM and UP ALL NIGHT, BBC RADIO 5 LIVE’S international news programme.  Marverine is a real life example of a “Woman on her way”.

Transformational Presentation

HN logoThe amazing team at Harvey Nichols will also be treating three women on the day to a transformational, confidence building makeover – transforming the outlook of women before our very eyes.

Angels Den (Investing up to £50,000)

Throughout the event there will an Angels Den activity. This will give five budding women entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their ideas to the angels and guests and win the prize that money can’t buy – mentoring from some of our outstanding women and an investor in their company up to the value of £50,000.
